Review: Healing Naturally: A Practical and Empowering Guide to Everyday Wellness - In an age when many people are searching for alternatives to pharmaceutical-heavy approaches to health, The Natural Healing Guidebook arrives as both a practical manual and an invitation to rethink how we care for our bodies. Written by Paul Connett, PhD, this comprehensive guide explores more than 100 natural remedies designed to support healing across a wide range of conditions including inflammation, stress, pain, digestion, cognition, and immunity. What immediately stands out is the bookโs accessible tone. Connett manages to present a large amount of information without overwhelming the reader. Each remedy is explained clearly, with a focus on how and why it works, allowing readers to understand not just what to try but the science and reasoning behind each suggestion. This blend of scientific grounding and everyday practicality gives the book a reassuring credibility. The structure of the guidebook makes it especially user friendly. Readers can easily look up specific concerns such as joint pain, fatigue, or digestive discomfort and find natural options that may help support healing. From herbal treatments and nutritional adjustments to lifestyle practices and stress-reduction techniques, the remedies span a broad spectrum of holistic care. This makes the book useful both as a reference tool and as a starting point for anyone interested in taking a more active role in their own wellness. Another strength of the book is its empowering message. Rather than positioning natural remedies as a rejection of modern medicine, Connett frames them as complementary tools that can work alongside conventional treatments. This balanced perspective encourages readers to become informed participants in their health decisions, emphasizing prevention and long-term wellness rather than quick fixes. Review: A practical introduction to natural remedies - I enjoyed how this book balances traditional herbal knowledge with practical caution. Instead of presenting natural remedies as miracle cures, it explains when they might help and when you should be careful. That approach made the information feel more trustworthy. The sections on common kitchen ingredients and easy preparation methods were especially useful for me. I also appreciated the plant identification details and safety notes, which many guides tend to skip. The illustrations add clarity without feeling excessive. Overall, it reads like a grounded introduction for anyone curious about natural remedies and everyday plant based wellness.

Excellent, inspirational reference for health!
Paul Gaskell has written a clear and concise manual for using common household items, along with a few herbs and plants that can be purchase or grown, with easy to follow preparation and usage instructions. The basis focuses on taking advantage of the health-related properties of about 20 plants with various health benefits. He provides and uses thoughut the book a risk framework to keep in mind when using these plants and herbs. He delves into more than 100 different natural remedies for many different purposes, more than I would ever use! As in his other books, Gaskell is very good at creating frameworks for analysis and preparation. Because of the large number of remedies presented, I would have appreciate one of his frameworks for me to use in identifying an approach I could customize for my own health related to brain, eyes, lungs, heart, liver, and kidney functions. He would be very good at crafting such a framework. I'll use the book regularly for decoctions, infusions, and teas. It's inspiring!

Very Useful Book
In my five decades of teaching and navigating the joys and jolts of raising a large family, I have learned that the best solutions are often the ones that work in harmony with nature. The Natural Healing Guidebook feels less like a clinical manual and more like a well-worn reference volume. It is clear, structured, and deeply practical. The book offers a comprehensive roadmap for addressing everything from the "brain fog" that can creep up on us as we age to the persistent inflammation that often accompanies a life well-lived. With over 100 remedies, it covers a vast spectrum of wellness, including stress management and immune support. As a former educator, I particularly appreciated the organization of the material; it doesnโt just list herbs but explains the why behind the remedy, making it an excellent resource for those of us who never stop wanting to learn. This guide is a treasure trove for "homestead" medicine. Whether it's a scraped knee from a backyard adventure or the digestive upsets that come with family holiday feasts, the remedies are accessible and grounded in holistic tradition. Itโs the kind of family pass-me-down through the generations book that you want to keep in the kitchen (right next to the organic honey and ginger) to share with your children and grandchildren when they call asking for advice on a stubborn cough or a stressful week at work. While it is a dense guide, it avoids being overwhelming. It encourages a slow, intentional shift toward wellness rather than a radical overhaul. For those of us in our golden years, it provides a sense of agency over our own vitality. It is a thoughtful, comprehensive guide that bridges the gap between traditional wisdom and modern health needs, making it a "must-have" for many family libraries.

Light on pictures and formatting for a guide/recipe book
Natural healing is always something I've taken an interest in based on the fact that I feel like most of what we call medicine anymore is full of chemicals and things that can do more harm than good. There are some good parts to this particular book I did find it quite interesting to read about the risk of sensitization which is essentially the risk of repeat exposure to natural remedies and how that can create issues. The section going over the risks of natural remedies is certainly thorough and it definitely made me think about things in a cautious way. I think where this book falls short for me is there are very few illustrations and they lack detail and color I feel like a natural healing book should have at a minimum color illustrations but in reality should also have color photos to make it easier to identify and avoid possibly misidentifying some of the things if you are out foraging for them on your own. I also feel like there could be more structured recipes in a more traditional style where this is just built out in more of a list style. Maybe it's more of a personal preference but I would prefer a natural healing remedy book to be structured more like a standard cookbook or other remedy books I have read.

Herbs and their uses.
This guide to natural healing is very practical for me. I found useful herbs here for my ailments, such as high stress, fatigue, and poor digestion. Besides medications, I also use herbs I'm familiar with. I'm very interested in natural medicine. I've been visiting my herbal medicine shop very often for years. I like that, I can plant the herbs I've learned in my garden and have access to them daily. And sipping hot teas made from these herbs in the evenings or before bed. I also need to try the tinctures I've read about here. These tinctures very intrigued me, especially the calming, strengthening, deworming, and skin-soothing ones. My favorite herbs are mint, chamomile, licorice, lemon balm, and basil. I often use honey and garlic, turmeric, and ginger in my cooking. Herbs are my first resort before I even get to the pharmacy. I love combining them, which has even greater effects. I really like this book because I found some great tips.

Great addition to your natural remedies library.
If you want to know how to create your own personal apothecary, this book is for you. Detailed guide covering everything from preparation methods, plant parts used, active constituents, and dosage guidelines to storage methods, single- and multiple-ingredient remedies, and unique therapeutic values at your fingertips. The Kindle edition has black-and-white images. Color images would help to identify plants

Good Content, But Visually a Bit Flat
Thereโs definitely useful information in here. The overall structure makes it easy to look things up when needed. For me, it just felt a bit too text-heavy. I was missing more visuals or variation to break things up. After a while, it becomes a bit monotonous to read. Overall, solid content and helpful as a reference, but the presentation could be more engaging.

Simple and effective natural remedies
I suffer from chronic inflammation, so it was great to read The Natural Healing Guidebook. I was impressed because it is full of simple, effective remedies for many challenging health conditions and general wellness. We live in a time when even health supplements are extremely expensive and full of harmful additives, so what better time to take control of your life by using a more natural and holistic approach to fight sickness and aid recovery from a wide array of ailments. I recommend you read this book and keep it handy to make use of these remedies.

Instructive and easy to follow
It seems to me that this book is well thought through. I liked the first introductory chapters on risk (such an important topic!) and also the parts about the main plants and how to grow them, the basic preparation methods and the kitchen ingredients. I gladly confirmed that the little knowledge that I had on this subject was correct but, most importantly, I learnt a lot more, and also found that it was pretty handy to have all the infos in just one book. I haven't tried all the recipes yet, but the ones I did were easy to follow and prepare (mostly the ones on cough and congestion for now) and they worked really well.
