I brought this to replace my AMD stock cooler which although was a pretty substantial affair with copper base and 4 heat pipes, was very loud at high loads with a very high pitched whine, something akin to a jet taking off. It's a reasonably high spec'ed CPU in a smallish case, so I needed a replacement that would fit in the case, match the stock cooler for cooling performance but reduce the noise. The shrunken has reduced the CPU by about 4-5 deg C under load, and the system unit is also a couple of degs cooler (although I did use the opportunity to sort out my cabling as well). However the big improvement is the noise levels. Although still pretty audible under load it's a much gentler, less distracting sound.Compared to other low profile coolers it was pretty expensive, however I have my doubts that most of these would have matched the stock cooler performance with my CPU. Overall I am pretty happy and believe I have achieved what I wanted, a much quieter cooler without losing any performance. One word to other newbie Cooler fitters like myself. The first time I installed this I spread the supplied thermal compound on the cpu. To my horror, the temp under load reached 70+. Refitting using a small blob of MX4 in the centre cured the problem. Also remember to remove the plastic protective cover from the base, easily forgotten.

Good performance, slightly noisy fan, difficult to install, make sure your RAM is less than 40mm high
Bought for use in a node 202, which it fits in if you remove the dust filter (or trim it down). The slimline fan is slightly noisier than I would have liked, I'll likely swap it out at some point soon, I set it up as an exhaust, rather than an intake, from the case. The fan had a tendency to rattle, so I placed some thin rubber strips between the fan and the heatsync to prevent rattling.Performance wise, this is great, it's keeping an overclocked 8600k at a reasonable temperature without too much noise.Unfortunately, it's very fiddly to install as you need access to both the front and back of the motherboard at the same time.Make sure to check the height of your RAM, the Shuriken is 120mm wide and WILL interfere with your ram in a small (M-ITX) motherboard, make sure to avoid large heatsyncs. I'm using some Crucial Ballistix Elite which is 40mm high and the absolute tallest that will fit!

Fiddly to install but amazing cooler
Bought originally for a Node 202 case but due to the CPU placement of my motherboard I wasn't able to install the GPU riser as the pins on the riser touched the fins of the cooler! One replacement case (Raijintek Ophion) later and it's fine. So YMMV with your motherboard.Make sure you read the instructions as it's easier to install some of the screws out of the case first, then mount to the motherboard. Otherwise, really good!At full speed the fan is barely audible I find, a lot quieter than my old Cryorig C7. It takes up a lot of space as the fan is massive, but worth it.I see similar temperatures in a warm case (at stock speeds) to some people with overclocked, watercooled systems which is a bonus!

Lovely piece of engineering, and very effective; but instructions could be better
It was not that difficult to fit although a bit of a fiddle (including getting to the back of the motherboard). I am convinced I assembled exactly as per instructions, but the fact the rubber gromits serve no purpose at all suggests the spacing is not as they intend. The thing that troubled me was that with the geometry of my particular socket 1156 motherboard there was quite a bit of guesswork involved - if I tightened it too much I might have strained and possibly damaged the motherboard; tightened not enough and there I might have risked the item not being clamped properly onto the processor. However the result is a very well cooled processor, and the fan is hardly audible. I would not hesitate to give 5 stars if the instructions were clearer.

Huge drop in temp and noise
Before buying this cooler I was using the stock intel cooler paired with my i5 4670k. In games like black ops 4 my cpu would reach into the high 70’s and the fan would be extremely noisy. While idle it would sit around 50 degrees. After installing this cooler, my temps in game have plummeted to only 50 degrees max while my pc now idles at around 35-40. The different is night and day, also it is very quiet when idle.My case is the node 202 and I didn’t have to modify it in any way to fit this cooler, it even fits with the dust filter installed.

Not meant for Micro Motherboards.
After weeks of deciding on which one of the many coolers available to buy, I still choose the wrong one it did not fit my AMD GIGABYTE GA-F2A88XM-D3HP motherboard. The five copper pipes protrude from both sides of the fan, (this is a good thing in transferring the more heat to the fins, most coolers only have half the amount of pipes i.e. On one side only.) because of this i could not turn the fan around so that the copper pipes miss my Memory cards.I could have bodged it and used the two memory slots furthest away, but this would mean my memory cards would not be in interlaced memory banks and so run slower. The Fan looks good quality well designed, and comes with adaptors for AMD and Intel.I would state that it is NOT a straight forward clip in fan, as the motherboard has to be removed to fit the Cooler mount on the underside of the Motherboard after first removing the original mount.

Perfect for the Node 202
This is a better alternative to the stock cooler on a Ryzen CPU. There's no official mounting kit for AM4 provided by Scythe but the Noctua kit can work.

0GHz cool enough, prime95 not suitable when using this cooler
Not able to keep an i7-6700K at 4.0GHz cool enough, prime95 not suitable when using this cooler.A Zalman optima CNPS10X for instance can maintain under 60 DegCThis cooler, same test conditions will see temperatures closer to 90 DegC.
