Another excellent and varied album.
On "The Nihilist", Finn blends aspects of his previous work, from the sweet songwriting of his 2007 debut "I'll Be Lightning" to the raw psychedelic-influenced looping "FOMO". The album is compelling as a work, as the songs from both of his traditions complement each other, while the best of them combine both. As a Finn the influence of his father and uncle has always been strong, but shines through here in only a few golden moments; Liam Finn is now more comfortably an artist in his own right. Highly recommended.

Don't look for a Neil Lookalike here!
As with his past releases Liam Finn continues to be his own man and not live off of the reputation of his famous father. Joining Liam is brother Elroy on drums who does a servicable job and brings a good sense of rhythm to the disk. The songs are first rate and keep an eye on this upcoming singer/songwriter who is cutting his own way into the music business!

Broad array of musical fun
I feel blessed to have run into Liam's work and I hope he never stops making music like this.

Four Stars
While it doesn't quite measure up to his excellent debut, it does improve on FOMO.

a light-hearted, trippy, synth-twisted pop album
4th from New Zealand artist who plays guitar/synth indie pop with a smooth-flow feel of exotic psychedelic quirkiness. The songs move from hook-driven electro-funk to hypnotic whisper melodies, from lively & distorted rhythmic bounce to sweet/happy endorphin-overloaded experimental joy-pop with a soulful center. Former member of Betchadupa. “The Nihilist” is a light-hearted, trippy, synth-twisted pop album with wobbly-round corner tangents. Occasionally recalls Super Furry Animals, MGMT, Pigeonhed, Luke Temple, Metro, Split Enz.

Great Album!
There is definitely an influence from the "Finn" family... but he is finding his own sound and making great music. It is my favorite album by him to date.

No talent at all. These guys should get a different job, stop living under daddy's wake, and stop wasting our money on worthless CDs.

An absolute beauty!
Absolutely blown away by this album. How Liam Finn isn't a household name beggars belief. The song writing is superb, especially my trio of favourites, Snug as f**k, Helena Bonham Carter and the incredible Burn up the road, which deserves to be heard by a much wider audience. Clearly I'm a huge fan, but this really is that good. An absolute must see live also.
