This is a Great hat for sheilding your melon from the sun! It has a nice wide brim. The draw back for me personally is that I didn't pay attention to what fabric this Boonie was made of. This hat is made with waterproof material (great by its own right)! This material tends to breathe a lot less which tends to make my head sweat a lot more. I was also told by someone though that you have to just keep wearing it and the material Will become more breathable over time. It does have two little air vents on each side of it but so far my head keeps roasting. The other thing is I had read other people's reviews of these hats before I purchased mine and there were comments pertaining to the sizes being off. I ordered the 7.75 for my big head and it is more than big enough! For the most part this hat is a good hat. If you want something that's really breathable right off the bat, this site has a lot of really nice hats like those to chose from also. The thing is- I use this hat for fishing in a boat to shield myself from the sun---but guess what? It rains out there some times too!! Great hat! Great look! Great price! Serves its purpose.

Excellent sun protection. The big space at the top and the "breathing holes" make all the difference in terms of staying cooler and less wet while working in the yard in hot sun. These hats are similar to army issue hats for Iraq. This hat is shaped for long-heads like me. I can't wear the stylish baseball caps that "round heads" wear all the time-- the caps come right off. These hats fit me wonderfully-- what a relief when I need to work for extended periods in hot sun. I have not tried washing them yet.
