Movo VXR1000 Mini HD Shotgun Condenser Video Microphone for DSLR and Mirrorless Cameras

The media could not be loaded.  I purchased the Movo VXR1000, with the initial goal of having a simple external microphone. My video review contains an indoor (no / minimal ambient sound) comparison between the VXR1000 and the built-in stereo microphone on my Canon 70D. If you watch the video review, I suggest using a headset rather than your computer speakers.Here are what I see as the Pros and Cons of this device, along with my overall impression.PROS:- Great bundle, which makes this a great value. The box includes the microphone with integrated shock mount, dead cat windscreen, and carrying bag. With most external microphones, you need to pay more on top of the microphone price for these "extras."- Nice form factor. Takes up very little space and rests high enough above the camera housing to minimize any autofocus noises from non-STM lenses.- Good build quality, notably of the shock mount. Most external microphones (even some much more expensive ones) have flimsy shock mounts made of various rubber bands - the shock mount on the VXR1000 is part of the housing and looks/feels solid.- Acceptable MONO recording quality, with minimal feedback, as testedCONS:- Acceptable MONO recording quality. A pro and a con? Yes - it depends what you're looking for in a microphone. One of my gripes is that neither the Amazon listing, nor the box, nor the tiny manual in the box mentioned that this microphone records in mono. If your DSLR / camcorder records in stereo, with the VXR1000 your recording will revert to mono, which is a step down.OVERALL:This is a shotgun-style condenser microphone that is at a very good price point for all the accessories it offers. However, I find that the stereo recording of my tiny built-in camera microphone is superior. So despite the great package, build quality, and value, I can't give this more than a 3-star rating.In my case, I opted instead for the Rode Stereo Videomic Pro, which is at a much higher (10x at this time) price point. I bought my 70D to record video as well as take photographs - with the investment, I decided that I wanted exceptional sound quality and to capture all ambient sound. This shotgun mic is a winner.I purchased it a few months ago, and the third time I used it, it began to add a clicking sound to everything recorded with it. I contacted the manufacturer and within a week, I had a brand new mic in my hands. 5 star customer service from Movo, the mic was replaced with no questions asked.My new mic works perfectly.This mic is small, but it still works well. I was expecting something a little larger, but the smaller size makes it more convenient to transport. It will fit into any DSLR/Video Camera with a 3.5mm audio jack, and it hooks in nicely to the top of the camera. Also, the base of the mic has a 1/4 in. hole which lets you mount it to a separate tripod if you care to.Also, the windscreen works well, if it is completely covering the mic. The windscreen made for crystal-clear audio in blistering San Francisco wind.One small downside to this mic is that it chews through batteries. Be sure to bring a few extras because the batteries will go a lot faster than you will expect.The mic doesn't produce professional-grade audio, but for the price, it is a must-have. It works well with my DSLR, and the windscreen is a big PLUS!!

I got this microphone for my Nikon D5100. I ordered it on Friday, got it on Wednesday, so fairly impressed with shipping. Box includes microphone, black cover (pictured), 'dead cat' wind muff (yet to try), manual, and a small bag that carries it. I was impressed by the overall quality of the mike compared to the D5100's built in microphone. It's certainly not a RODE or a Sennheiser, but it surely gets the job done. The audio is clearer, less 'echo-ey,' and does a good job of condensing to only the front of the camera. If I had paid 200 dollars for this, I would be disappointed. However, for 25 dollars, you certainly get more than your money's worth.***UPDATE***The wind muff is great at getting rid of the 'rumbling' sound heard when air is blown over the microphone and is especially better than the built-in microphone.

It works well as a mic for my GoPro cameras taking the tow price into consideration.A few issues had to be solved; the anti-vibration legs were to sloppy for the weight of mic, This was fixed with a little SUGRU self-curing compound around top of legs. Same stuff was used to fix problem with the circular perforated end piece of mic tube. This made a ratteling noise when moving around. The mic bag is a bit too small when the wind surpressor is on.After the fix sound quality was acceptable. I consider buying one more!

I purchased both this and the Movo Action Stabilizing Video Handle Grip together and both are pictured in the included photos.I use this with my Canon 70D for hobby videos, not professionally. It comes with a nice bag and a cover to put over the mic if you are getting too much wind noise. If you are buying this for your DSLR just make sure you have the mic input on it, my 70D does but my T1i does not. You will also need one AAA battery.I have no complaints. This is exactly what I expected and I can't complain about anything.

I bought this shotgun mic on a budget. All I expected from it was to have slightly better quality than the built-in microphone in my Nikon D5300. Using it a few times definitely proved to me that the quality was indeed better than the built in mic. It performs well for it's purpose, but if you're looking for a more cinematic sound experience then I would suggest dishing out the extra cash to buy yourself a higher quality microphone. Otherwise this microphone is just fine. I give it 4-stars only because the construction of this mic was slightly unsteady, but it didn't give me any serious problems.

as with most things you get what you pay for however this microphone exceeds its price bracket easily. it is not a professional tool though but for "normal" family video that will be more than enough for high quality recording. 4 stars only because the microphone picks up a lot of side noise when you are a few meters away from you subject.

No. I understand that the price is appealing but NO it does not do anything for me and I feel as though I wasted money buying it. I had to buy another microphone soon after and that really hurt my heart. I genuinely threw this product away because it would be of no use for anyone.

I bought this recently and have done a review of it on my YouTube channel - Techmoto (the one with a picture of a helmet on a beach). You can see the quality of the audio on these videos - the mic is great, but it utilises a plastic mount to stop vibration which feels a little fragile. Still going strong though and not broken yet.
